Yes, you can donate a damaged car in Idaho today

In Idaho, dents, rust, cracked windshields, accident or storm damage do NOT disqualify your car. Idaho Wheels Forward can still accept it, tow it free, and provide a full tax receipt.

If your car in Idaho has dents, rust, a smashed bumper, cracked windshield, or storm and accident damage, you can still donate it through Idaho Wheels Forward. Cosmetic or body damage does NOT disqualify your vehicle. We work with Heritage for the Blind, a real 501(c)(3), to accept cars in virtually any cosmetic condition—running or not—anywhere in Idaho, from Boise and Meridian to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho Falls, Nampa, Twin Falls, and beyond.

Here’s how it works: you don’t repair a thing. Once you submit your donation, our towing partner picks up your vehicle at no cost—whether it’s parked at your home in West Boise, a shop in Pocatello, or a driveway in Caldwell. The car is then sold as-is. Its appearance and body damage may lower the sale price, which can mean a smaller tax deduction, but you still receive a minimum guaranteed tax receipt of $500. If it sells for more, your deduction is based on the actual sale price, documented with IRS Form 1098-C for donations over $500. Either way, you get free removal of your problem car and a legitimate tax benefit while supporting services for people who are blind or visually impaired.

How to get your free pickup scheduled

1

1. Tell us about your damaged vehicle

Go online or call to share the basics: location in Idaho, year, make, model, and a quick note on the body damage—dents, rust, cracked glass, accident or storm damage. Don’t worry about being exact; we just need enough to schedule towing and handle title questions for Idaho DMV requirements.

2

2. Get a fast confirmation and pickup time

We confirm that Idaho Wheels Forward can accept your damaged vehicle on behalf of Heritage for the Blind and then arrange free towing anywhere in Idaho—Boise, Meridian, Kuna, Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Twin Falls, and more. You choose a convenient day and time; you don’t have to make the car drivable or safe to operate.

3

3. Prepare your title and hand over the keys (if any)

Before pickup, locate your Idaho title and have your ID ready. If the windshield is shattered or doors are stuck, that’s fine—the driver will handle loading. You sign the title over, give the driver any keys you have (not required if lost), and receive a towing receipt for your records on the spot.

4

4. We tow your car for free, as-is

Our towing partner safely removes your vehicle wherever it sits—driveway, backyard, barn, or repair shop. There is no charge, even if the car has flat tires, severe rust, or accident-frame damage. The vehicle then goes to auction or a buyer who specializes in damaged or salvage vehicles, sold strictly as-is.

5

5. Your car is sold, and your tax receipt is issued

Heritage for the Blind sells your damaged car based on its real market value, not what it would be worth in perfect condition. You receive a guaranteed tax receipt for at least $500. If it sells for more, you’ll get documentation of the actual sale amount and IRS Form 1098-C for deductions over $500.

6

6. You help fund services for people who are blind

Proceeds from your damaged vehicle support Heritage for the Blind’s programs for people who are blind or visually impaired. You clear a problem vehicle from your property, avoid repair hassles, gain a tax deduction, and make a meaningful difference for Idahoans and others living with vision loss.

Potential complications to watch for

Missing Idaho title or registration

Tip: Body damage is fine; missing paperwork is what can slow things down. If you’ve misplaced your Idaho title, we can often guide you on getting a duplicate from the DMV in Boise or your county. Have any registration, old insurance cards, or prior paperwork ready before you call to speed up approval.

Lien still showing on the title

Tip: If your Idaho title lists a bank or lender, we must confirm the lien is released before donation. Check for a signed lien release or updated title. If you’re unsure, call the lender or DMV first. Clearing this up early prevents delays, especially for older vehicles that have been sitting damaged for years.

Vehicle blocked in or hard to access

Tip: Towing a damaged car from a backyard, alley, or field can be tricky. Let us know if it’s stuck, on a slope, or surrounded by other items. The more detail you share, the better we can send the right truck and equipment and avoid rescheduling—especially in tight Boise North End or downtown neighborhoods.

Different name on title and current owner

Tip: If the car is still titled in a relative’s or former spouse’s name, we may need extra documentation like a power of attorney, probate paperwork, or a signed title from the owner of record. Before scheduling towing, confirm whose name is on the Idaho title so we can tell you exactly what’s needed.

FAQ

My car has major rust and dents. Can I still donate it in Idaho?
Yes. Rust, dents, peeling paint, hail dings, or a dented quarter panel do NOT disqualify your car. Idaho Wheels Forward, working with Heritage for the Blind, accepts vehicles in virtually any cosmetic condition. The car will be sold as-is, and your tax deduction will be based on what it actually sells for, not what it would be worth if repaired.
Can I donate a car with a cracked or shattered windshield?
Absolutely. Cracked, spidered, or completely shattered windshields are common and acceptable. You do not need to replace the glass. The towing company will load the vehicle safely as-is. Just mention the damage upfront so the driver is prepared with proper equipment. The cracked glass may lower the sale price, but you’ll still receive at least a $500 tax receipt.
My car was in an accident and has frame damage. Is it still eligible?
Yes. Accident damage, bent frames, missing bumpers, deployed airbags, and insurance total-loss status are all typically acceptable. As long as you have the proper Idaho title and can legally transfer ownership, we can usually take it. The car may sell as salvage, which can lower the amount, but your minimum guaranteed tax receipt remains $500.
Do I need to repair the body damage before donating?
No repairs are needed or expected. Don’t spend money on body work, paint, rust repair, or glass replacement just to donate. Idaho Wheels Forward and Heritage for the Blind accept cars exactly as they sit, anywhere in Idaho. The vehicle is sold as-is, and the real sale amount—damaged or not—determines your tax deduction, with a minimum of $500.
How does body damage affect my tax deduction?
Body damage can reduce what buyers are willing to pay, so your vehicle may sell for less than a similar undamaged car. Your deduction is based on the actual sale price, documented by Heritage for the Blind. You’re guaranteed a receipt for at least $500. If it sells for more than $500, you’ll receive IRS Form 1098-C showing the exact sale amount.
Will you still tow my damaged car for free if it doesn’t run?
Yes. Free towing is included anywhere in Idaho whether the car runs or not and regardless of the damage. Flat tires, broken axles, missing parts, or severe body damage are all okay. Just tell us where it’s located—driveway in Meridian, shop in Idaho Falls, farm near Caldwell—and we’ll arrange the appropriate tow truck at no cost to you.
How long does it take from scheduling to pickup in Idaho?
Pickup time can vary, but many vehicles are towed within a few days of your initial contact. Rural locations or difficult access may take a bit longer, but we work to match your schedule. Once the car is sold, your tax receipt is mailed after the sale closes. Throughout the process, you pay nothing for towing, regardless of the damage.
